Fungi under study at CFMR: Samples of Images
At the CFMR in Madison Wisconsin we work on taxonomic stidies in the genera Armillaria, Laetiporus,
Phellinus, Oxyporus, Phlebia, and a number of other genera. We also have several ongoing fungal biodiversity projects.
Some samples of images of these fungi in JPEG format are below.
About 1000 additional 75-150 kbyte JPEG images can be found through this GATEWAY to Tom Volk's fungi images gopher site
This is Armillaria gallica ![](images/agall.jpg)
this is Armillaria calvescens
Armillaria nabsnona Volk & Burdsall

A key to Armillaria species may be found
here.
We are also working on the genus Laetiporus.
Laetiporus sulphureus var. sulphureus

Laetiporus sulphureus var. semialbinus
and Phellinus
Phellinus punctatus
Phlebia
Phlebia tremellosa
and Oxyporus
Oxyporus nobilissimus,
the rare (and probably endangered) polypore of the Pacific Northwest. This stump is almost 3 meters across. The basidiome is about 1.2m diameter. We are in the process of describing a new genus, Bridgeoporus, to accommodate this unusual taxon.
I also have a strong personal interest in cultivation of edible fungi, especially those that can be grown on wood and wood debris,
and I have acted as a consultant for several mushroom and spawn companies.
This is shiitake, Lentinula edodes, growing on an "artificial" sawdust log.
