Basswood (Tilia): Medium twig with alternate leaf scars. The bud at the end is not a terminal (apical) bud, but an axillary bud. The lower image shows the leaf scar associated with that bud. The apex of th eshoot falls off at that node in the spring leaving a shoot scar (red arrow).
