 Fuchsia spp.- Fuchsia (Onagraceae)

This genus is largely tropical / temperate South America, but one section occurs in New Zealand and Tahiti. The fossil record (in Australia and Antarctic) and molecular systematics indicate that the genus is an example of an element of the great southern hemisphere temperate flora that broke apart roughly 30-50 million years ago. Recent long distance dispersal has given rise to the species in Tahiti.
