 Nelumbo sp.- Lotus Lily (Nelombonaceae)

The lotus lilies comprise two floating aquatic species, one endemic to eastern North America (Nelumbo lutea) and the other to eastern Asia (Nelumbo nucifera ). Like the Saururaceae, Nelumbo is a characteristic example of this common disjunct pattern. Nelumbo is only superficially similar to our water lilies; in this case the leaves are umbrella-like or peltate.
