 Houttuynia cordata- (Saururaceae)

This species, the only one in the genus, is restricted to eastern Asia. However, it has a close relative Saurura (the lizard's tail) in which one species is restricted to eastern Asia and the other in eastern North America, both in bogs. The heart shaped leaves indicate that Houttuynia belongs to an ancient herbaceous group called the "paleoherbs".
