Floral Features : Actinomorphic and perfect (rarely unisexual). Flowers are small and green and borne on inflorescences of cymes, panicles or spikes. Hypogynous.
Fruit and Seed Features : Fruit as an achene or nut with persistant calyx often present. Seeds with spiral or curved embryo on periphery and with perisperm present. Endosperm absent. Placentation is basal.
Vegetative Features : As herbs or shrubs and rarely trees. Leaves simple, alternate. Stipules are lacking.
