Distribution: A scattered, cosmopolitan distribution.
Economic
Uses: Important as the boxwood, an
evergreen hedge plant and as the source of some ornamental woods
used for inlaying and carved into furniture. Some species used
extensively as ground covers.
Defining
Features of Interest: The family is
distinctive in the order Euphorbiales because it lacks a milky
latex, stipules and has different seed characters.
Fossil Evidence: Macrofossils
in the Miocene.
