Plant systematics will explore the
origin and diversification of land plants while emphasizing flowering
plants. You will become familiar with taxonomy (identification,
nomenclature, classification emphasizing flowering plants), evolution
(speciation, reproductive biology, adaptation, convergence, biogeography),
and phylogenetics (phenetics, cladistics, morphology and molecules).
Lab emphasizes learning representative families and genera of
flowering plants in Wisconsin and use of keys and manuals. A plant
collection of 25 species is done. Prerequisite: 5 cr intro crse
in botany. Links below will get you to the Fall 2007 version,
but the content for 2008 will be quite similar.
