Cross Section of Pinus strobus (White Pine)

This woody stem has a much thinner periderm than that of oak. While the wood includes both heart and sap wood these are not as distinct. No rays are visible to the unaided eye because they are one cell layer thick.

Of the two woody stems (burr oak and white pine) which do you think is most likely to survive fire?
