Endodermis
In roots, this is the innermost layer of the cortex. The cells of this tissue layer have a ring of suberin around their cell walls that effectively stops apoplastic movement between the cortex and the vascular cylinder. In older roots, these cells often form a suberin lamella, a waterproof secondary wall.
