Dermal Tissue System
This includes all the tissues of the plant that interface with the environment. In the shoot, it serves primarily to limit water loss. In the root, through the formation of root hairs, this tissue serves to increase the surface area for uptaking water. Non-vascular plants can have dermal tissue, but green algae never do.
